5G education technology: Learning with AI, AR and VR
Verizon is serious about bringing 5G technology to the classrooms. To make this happen, the company launched a competition where universities, research organizations and such can submit their ideas for 5G education technology.
In this blog post we will go through how the competition works and its purposes.
Innovating new technologies
Verizon, together with NYC Media Lab, will start taking submission from the 15th of October until the 20th of November, 2018.
The top ten innovations will each get $100,000 in funding. In addition to that, the prizes will include training and access to Verizon’s 5G network. This is to ensure a smooth implementation of these technologies.
In order to get the most out of the technology, it could utilize artificial intelligence, augmented or virtual reality. This could result in mixed reality glasses geared towards students for example, or something entirely new.
5G education technology could bring the lectures of a teacher to other schools as well, improving the availability of quality STEM classes, among other things.
The purpose
The competition is focused on middle school. These new technologies could solve a variety of problems, especially for schools and students with fewer resources.
With these innovations, Verizon and NYC Media Lab hope to tackle issues like low student engagement. Innovation could also help allocate more resources to students with special needs.
In conclusion: Verizon and NYC Media Lab believe that 5G technology could improve the quality of education for all. We hope to see the winning innovations later this year. Only time will tell what kind of impact these technologies will have on the education system.
