Can developers make artificial intelligence fun?
Developers have utilized artificial intelligence for various purposes, from the medical field to more commonplace uses, including AI assistants. In this blog post, we are going to introduce the latest developments in the field which make artificial intelligence fun.
Artificial intelligence as a companion
Today, robots are often powered by artificial intelligence. There are many different kinds – some solve problems while some are for social use.
Sony’s Aibo is a robotic dog, which was first launched back in 1999. Since then, the company has launched several models of the robotic companion. Now, the newest model is set to launch in the United States later this year.
The new Aibo is a lot like a puppy – it can learn new tricks, adapt to its surroundings and recognize its family members. As the owner interacts more with the robot, it develops a “personality” accordingly. This model offers the latest technology and it can connect to the internet, which expands its capabilities. Consequently, it does not come cheap – the AI puppy costs $2,899.
AI that’s all about you
As Aibo and AI assistants prove, artificial intelligence is becoming more and more accessible to the general public. Besides the companies utilizing AI, consumers now also have options designed for them – some more useful and some more about fun.
Google’s Gboard, a keyboard app, recently launched a feature called Mini. Mini allows the user to take a selfie and then artificial intelligence turns this selfie into emoji-like stickers. You can see the feature in action below and if you would like to try it yourself, the app is available for both iOs and Android.
Besides this, artificial intelligence can now turn any dancer into a good dancer. Algorithms designed by University of California Berkeley researchers can manipulate a video to make it look like the subject is dancing, by using a dance expert as source material.
The project is called Everybody Dance Now. While the technology has its imperfections, the result are still quite impressive and these glitches could be fixed in the future. You can check out the video below to see it for yourself.
The answer to the question is:
Yes. We believe artificial intelligence can be fun just as well as it can be useful. Aibo, Gboard’s Mini and Everybody Dance Now are just the latest examples of this. Furthermore, the versatility of AI guarantees almost and endless amount of different ways to use it, and we are looking forward to seeing what the future holds.
